Bittersweet

Well, it's a bittersweet day for the Copeland family. We closed on the sale of our Oxford house. I'm sure most of you know this, but we built this house pretty much from the ground up. We bought a set a plans, but Charles worked with them so much, there isn't much that is the same as the original blue prints. He contracted all the work himself, and even did some of the jobs himself - woodwork, dirt work, porches etc... Every single thing about this house is a product of a decision we made. It took us a complete year of our lives to build. During that year we started and finished our first year of law school, and had our second child.

But now, it is no longer ours. I am so glad that the cutest, nicest couple bought it. They are about our age but don't have any children yet. They really seem to love the house, and it makes me happy to have someone moving in that I know will enjoy it the way we intended it to be enjoyed.

Even though we have essentially been living in Jackson for the last few months, it didn't really seem final until today. We are really enjoying Jackson though, and looking forward to our new house and the projects it will bring. We have been in Oxford since 1996, except for 18 months when we moved to Memphis after under-grad. So while we are excited about our new life, it is a little sad to leave our old life behind.

Here are some pictures - in remembrance of our old house.

I'm sorry, what?

What was that you said, Carlisle? It sounded like you said Davis is your boyfriend.

Are you kidding me? My 4 year-old informed Charles and me tonight that Davis (in her class) is her boyfriend.

I thought something was up when I picked her up today and she and Davis were playing by themselves on the playground. She was seriously beaming at him, and completely oblivious to me calling her name about 20 times.

When we got in the car, I said, "Davis is cute, isn't he?" Then her ear to ear grin told me that she agreed. I didn't think much else about it until bedtime when she told me she had to tell me a secret - which was that Davis was her boyfriend. Charles about died. I think he saw his future crashing in on him - about 20+ more years of worrying about boys.

Seriously, how does she even know what a boyfriend is? She's four. I guess it could be worse - she also told us that Mia Kate (another girl in her class) has two boyfriends!

Nashville or Bust

Claire and I hit the road and headed to Nashville this past weekend for Mary Morgan's baby showers. There were lovely parties Friday night and Saturday morning. Even about 6 inches of snow couldn't stop the fun!

Baby Jack has a fabulous nursery awaiting his arrival - and his momma has her Gucci diaper bag ready to go!

WooHoo!

We got the house!! Supposed to close March 31. Stay tuned as we tackle this project - it should be finished in several years....

And we wait, and wait, and wait....

I've had so many people call and email wanting to know what was going on with the house - so I thought I'd post an update. And the update is that we still know absolutely nothing. Apparently the seller was stuck in airports all day yesterday or something. I'm not quite sure what is going on - especially since there are two offers, it seems like all he would really need to do is let us bid amongst ourselves for a bit.

Whatever, I suppose all we can do is wait.

What Goes Around Comes Around

After months of looking for a new house, we finally found one we liked and could make an offer on it since we have a contract on our old house. Of course, since we were lucky enough to get a bidding war on our house last week, we put in an offer on a new house yesterday that also had another offer.

I'm trying to get some work done, but I'm utterly distracted waiting to hear something about the house. I imagine we are going to be in a bidding war of our own. We really like this house, and LOVE the street it is on. It is a rehab project to be sure, but we know that we could turn it into a great home.

If this house doesn't work out, then we are totally back to square one for houses (much to my mother-in-law's dismay, I'm sure). I am so hopeful that we will get it, while trying not to get my hopes too high. (If that makes any sense.)

Here is a picture - and yes, we are aware that it borders on scary looking at the moment. Use your vision people.
