It's Raining Men!

Well Carlisle and Rainey are going to have lots of younger boyfriends. Seems like every one of my friends either just had or is having a baby boy.

Congratulations to Paul and Lindsay in Birmingham who just had baby James on Friday. He is absolutely gorgeous, with a head full of black hair like his dad. Mary Morgan just found out she is also having a boy. Breck and Lyn will be having their baby boy very soon (if he isn't here already). Our friends in Little Rock, Bo and Heather, will be having a boy in '08 as well. Of course three friends (Megan, Claire, and Meg) all had their little boys in September/October.

I have a lone friend, Caroline (who now lives in New York) that joined the two girls club with me last week. And the jury is still out for my friend Lain, and my cousin Fain. Oh that's cute, it rhymes, Lain and Fain. Hopefully we will hear what they are having before Christmas!

All these babies. Maybe if Charles and I are going to try for that boy we should do it soon before they all get taken!! (just kidding - no one hold their breath on that one)

One of those mornings

7:00 get out of bed, think to myself I have 1 1/2 hours to get myself dressed, the kids fed and dressed and get out the door. I can do this, even though I'm late every day, today we will be on time and I will be at the library studying by 9:00.

What really happened was that I fix Carlisle and myself breakfast and she starts to eat, I decide to check on Rainey (who was still sleeping) b/c she had a really bad bump on her head and I was a little worried about it. Of course when I go into Rainey's room, Carlisle starts screaming about how she wants her English muffin put back together, and apparently it is too challenging for a 4 year old to put one side of the muffin back on top of the other. Screaming wakes Rainey up, she was fine, good move on my part to check on her. Take Rainey into kitchen, Baxter has eaten my breakfast. Oh well, don't really have time to eat anyway. Fix Rainey breakfast.

Pack everyone's school bags, diapers, sippy cups, coats etc etc.... Carlisle then falls out of the bar stool onto her head, takes at least 5 minutes of rubs and kisses to repair the damage.

Start writing recipes for Carlisle's school cookbook. Her teacher has been harassing me about this. Don't get me wrong, I generally do everything we're supposed to for school, but they also usually involve Carlisle - this is really a cookbook for parents (as most 4 years olds don't read, nor cook) and Carlisle will only be at the school for another 2 weeks anyway. I told the teacher I really don't cook, and therefore don't really have any recipes, so then she told me I could write down the recipe for rice krispie treats, or slice and bake cookies. Whatever, that would be lame. I do cook very few things, so I was digging around for the recipes of those things, and start transcribing them onto a sheet of paper.

Phone rings, realtor from Jackson who wants to talk about a house that will be coming on the market. It takes me 10 minutes to get him off the phone, even after repeatedly telling him that we cannot buy a house until ours sells, we are in the middle of exams, and I'm trying to get the kids to school. Nicely of course.

Back to writing recipes. Then the best part, Carlisle took a glass of water that had been colored with purple food coloring (don't even ask, it involves fairies) into the living room where she managed to spill it on every side of every bottom cushion. How is that even possible? Ugh, take cushions off couch and proceed attempting to clean them while Carlisle screams about her nightgown and robe that also have purple on them.

It is now 8:30, my scheduled departure time, and neither child is dressed nor have I even had a shower. At this point Anita, our fabulous cleaning lady arrives, and takes over cleaning the cushions. I begin to think maybe I will make it through the morning.

Manage to dress both children, somehow. Carlisle wanted to wear three very large, different colored bows in her hair, but certainly did not want to brush her hair. Managed to compromise on pigtails, since she could have 2 ribbons. I won the brushing battle.

Rainey puts up a good fight, but I win again. She is now wearing Christmas dress that matches Carlisle's. At least if you just look at my children it seems like I have things together.

It's now 9:00, no time for my shower. Charles does get out of bed at this point though. I drag Carlisle kicking and screaming to car for school, Rainey's next, also crying because she pretty much does everything Carlisle does.

9:07 pull out of driveway. Get girls to school. Drive myself to school. Hike up the muddy mulch trail to the library. Sit down. Assess the situation. I'm wearing what I slept in, no make-up, and I just got an Almond Joy out the vending machine for breakfast, since Baxter enjoyed my English Muffin.

Ok, wow, I feel better. I hope no one actually reads all this whining.

Note to self

Never bribe a judge. Wow - for those of you that haven't heard (and I'm sure that most of my readers probably haven't heard and really don't care) "Dickie" Scruggs and son and business partners have been indicted in federal court for bribery. Article here.
For those of us finishing law school (in 14 days) and whose next to last law school exam ever is in a professional ethics class, and who are soon to be practicing insurance law, this is pretty big news. Perhaps they didn't have ethics classes when Dickie was in school.

And of course, reading all the internet banter about the alleged bribery (which according to the Clarion Ledger carries a maximum $1.5million fine and 75 years in prison) is way more interesting than studying. Although, as I mentioned, I kind of feel like I am studying for ethics - specifically, major ethical pitfalls to be avoided when practicing law. No bribing judges, got it.

And in more uplifting Oxford news, GO REBELS! Hopefully we've got a better coach lined up than grunting Coach O. I never understood a word that came out of his mouth, obviously the players couldn't either. I'm pretty pumped that we scored Houston Nutt, and looking forward to winning maybe at least 1 SEC game next year.

It's exam time again, which means more frequent blogging about nothing as I avoid studying, but still use how busy I am as an excuse not to return phone calls, emails, etc...

The upside of these exams, are of course, that they are the last ones. Charles has 11 days until he is no longer a law student, and I have 16. Yikes!

My Little Turkeys

Happy Thanksgiving

It looks like aunt Bonny has a lot to give thanks for this Thanksgiving - like talent for cake decorating and possibly for all the time she must have on her hands. Oh and of course she must give thanks for starting her transition to becoming our mother. Mom only cooks things that she finds in magazines with nice pictures. For example, last week we all went to Mom's for dinner where we were served boneless chicken thighs mixed on a platter with edamame, two different colors of green beans, and blue cheese. It was actually pretty good, but of course she made it because she found a picture she liked in a magazine. So aunt Bonny has followed in that same tradition - she found a picture of a nice Turkey cake in Ladies Home Journal (or some similar publication) and now here it is. Seriously though, it looks great, and I wish I were there to try it. She is at the farm with Mom and Jimmy, and we are in Jackson. She emailed me the pictures this morning and I thought it was the perfect way to say Happy Thanksgiving!

Mine, mine, mine!!!

I have to share this story, Charles and I are still laughing about it.

So any of you out there with at least two children close in age will know what I'm talking about, and to the rest of my friends who may be in this situation one day - get ready! We probably hear "my" or "mine" about 10,000 times a day from one child or the other, usually both at the same time, with lots of screaming, tears, and the occasional shove involved. We were all in the car yesterday and the girls and I were singing songs. Rainey was in a bit of a mood, being a little bossy about who was allowed to sing at what time. So Carlisle and I convince her that we should all sing London Bridge together, she agrees, we all sing. Going along quite nicely until the last part "my fair lady", in which Rainey bursts into tears and screaming at the top of her lungs, "No, it's MY fair lady, MY fair lady, MINE, MINE, MINE..."

Poor second child - has to fight for everything.
